The Chinese-language edition presents Asia Times articles to Chinese readers around the world.Asia Times is served by more than 30 correspondents and contributors in 13 Asian countries, the U.S. and Europe. Additional content is provided by news services and renowned think tank and investment analysts and academics. Asia Observer has been developed and is edited by John Einar Sandvand, a journalist in the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. From 1997 to 2000 he was based in Hong Kong as the newspaper's Asia correspondent. Asia Observer, however, is a hobby project and not affiliated with Aftenposten. Asia Observer, which was launched on January 1, 2000, is intended to be of use for journalists, researchers, politicians, students, business people, government officials and others who in their professional or personal capacity try to keep track of the rapid developments in Asia. The emphasis is on news, discussions, politics, economy and general background. The web edition of The Times of Central Asia was launched in 1999 and claims to be the only site offering an extended and constantly updated coverage of news in Central Asia. The site is an essential resource for international English-speaking viewers who have a professional interest in the region. TCA Online defines Central Asia as the five Central Asian republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and to a certain extend Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. At TCA, the philosophy is that Central Asia is a global region undergoing parallel changes, sharing many common problems and facing similar challenges. Blended with materials from TCA reporters in Almaty, Ashgabat, Astana, Bishkek, Dushanbe, Tashkent, information is posted 20 hours per day to provide the most updated and sophisticated news on Central Asia to readers. Starting from June 2002, TCA Online will also provide an emailed newsletter to subscribers. Asia Map
